Telehealth Counseling

What is Telehealth?

All of The Well’s clinicians offer telehealth services. Telehealth uses secure video chat to provide behavioral health services to clients from the comfort and convenience of their own home. A few things to know about telehealth:

  • It is convenient- Telehealth provides more options for scheduling appointments throughout the day. It also helps clients avoid travel time to and from their provider’s office.

  • It is private- For many clients, privacy is important. Meeting your clinician on-line can increase privacy.

  • It works- There is a strong body of research that demonstrates that telehealth services are as effective as in person services for many mental health conditions.

We use AthenaHealth. Athena has an embedded, HIPAA compliant telehealth platform!

No! Athena Telehealth does not require portal log in. You will receive the link for the
telehealth session via text and/or email (as long as you have consented to receive
electronic communication). You will simply click on the link, enter your name and
relationship to patient, check that you consent to the telehealth visit, and then you will
be able to join!

Yes! Athena telehealth is compatible with mobile devices, tablets, and computers.
Athena telehealth works best with the following web browsers: Apple Device – Safari (v.
12 and later), Android Device – Chrome (latest 3 versions) or Samsung Internet (v.12
and later), Mac Computer – Chrome (latest 3 versions), Firefox (latest 3 versions), or
Safari (v.12 and later), Windows Computer – Chrome (latest 3 versions), or Edge (v. 79
and later).

Yes! You can share the visit link with others, if you consent to them joining the session
and they will follow the same login procedure. Your provider can also manually send
them the link if needed. This unfortunately cannot be automated.

No – the links are specific to each appointment. You will receive a new link 2 days
before your appointment and again 15 minutes before your appointment. The link is
sent via text and/or email depending upon your electronic communication consents.

There is a great deal of research that indicates that many mental health services
through video chat are as effective as face-to-face counseling. However, telehealth may
not be appropriate for clients with chronic mental illness, or for clients who are
experiencing acute symptoms. If you need more information, please do not hesitate to
contact us for more information.

It is highly recommended that you attend your telehealth session in a private room or
setting. Room lighting is an important factor in creating a strong video chat experience.

A well-lit room is important. Avoid positioning bright lights or open windows directly
behind you.

Telehealth services are covered by most insurance plans. Our team will help you to
understand your benefits.

You will need a high-speed internet connection and a computer that is preferably no
more than 5- years old. You will need a web camera and a headset with a microphone
is recommended. Completing telehealth services over public internet connections is
strongly discouraged.
